Funeral services for Department of Justice Office of the Inspector General (OIG) Special Agent William “Buddy” Sentner, 44, will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2006, at 11:30 a.m. at the Saint James Cathedral in Orlando, Florida. Special Agent Sentner was shot and killed on June 21 while working as part of an OIG-FBI team to execute arrest warrants on six correctional officers at the Federal Correctional Institution in Tallahassee, Florida. These six correctional officers were indicted earlier this week on charges of conspiracy to sexually abuse female inmates and other crimes to further their conspiracy. At the order of the Attorney General, flags were flown at half mast Thursday at all Department of Justice buildings nationwide in honor of Agent Sentner. Agent Sentner joined the OIG’s San Diego Field Office in July 2002 and transferred to work for the OIG in Coleman, Florida, a year later. He began his federal law enforcement career with the U.S. Secret Service in October 1989 and served in the Secret Service Uniformed Division and its Phoenix Field Office before coming to the OIG. While with the OIG, Agent Sentner worked as both a polygrapher and a criminal investigator. “Special Agent Sentner was an experienced and dedicated special agent,” said Inspector General Glenn A. Fine. “I believe that his courageous actions while under fire reflected true heroism.” Agent Sentner is survived by his wife, parents, and two siblings.
