"Today's ruling makes absolutely clear how important it is to vigorously enforce our antitrust laws. Such enforcement gives the consumers the benefit of competition.

"We are pleased that the Court agreed with the Department that Microsoft abused its monopoly power. That it violated the antitrust laws, and that it harmed consumers. Microsoft has been held accountable for its illegal conduct by a court of law.

"Throughout this process, our goal has been to give consumers the benefits of competition. With competition comes more innovation, better products, lower prices and more choices. Thanks to this ruling, consumers who have been harmed can now look forward to benefits.

"I want to thank Joel Klein and the Antitrust Division for a perfectly wonderful job. Joel, I know you and the Division have worked tirelessly to look out for America's consumers - and on behalf of them, I say thank you.
