On the Front Lines for U.S. Diplomacy

IRM employees comprised of Foreign Service, Civil Service, and Foreign National information technology specialists serve on the front lines of U.S. diplomacy. They are “the first in and the last out.” Working in U.S. missions around the globe, these dedicated individuals operate the Department's radio, telephone, telegram, and computer systems. Efforts are underway to employ new information age tools to support U.S. embassies and consulates. Today these challenges are expanding to include the demands of the mobile diplomat coupled with security safeguards at every step of the way.
