Recruitment Efforts: We are currently seeking experienced civil attorneys in General Civil Litigation and Civil Health Care Fraud for our Miami Office.

About the Office: The United States Attorney’s Office (USAO), Southern District of Florida (SDFL), is seeking experienced attorneys to serve as Assistant United States Attorneys in the Civil Division of one of the largest USAOs in the nation. SDFL divisions include: Appellate, Asset Forfeiture, Civil and Criminal. There are also three branch offices located in Ft. Lauderdale, West Palm Beach and Ft. Pierce.

Responsibilities: The applicant selected will represent the U.S. Government as an Assistant United States Attorney in a wide range of unique and complex cases in a District that extends over 300 miles from Key West to Vero Beach. Some Civil Assistant U.S. Attorneys (AUSAs) defend the government in civil cases, including employment discrimination, tort and judicial review of agency action. Other Civil AUSAs handle primarily affirmative civil enforcement matters, including health care fraud.

Qualifications: Applicants must possess a Juris Doctor degree, be an active member of the bar (any jurisdiction); possess superior oral and written communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills; have demonstrated capacity to function, with minimal guidance, in a highly demanding environment. Additionally, it is desired that the successful candidate have strong academic credentials and at least three years of post J.D. experience.

Travel: Some travel may be necessary.

Salary Information: Assistant United States Attorneys’ pay is administratively determined based, in part, on the number of years of professional attorney experience and availability of funds.

Relocation Expenses: Relocation expenses will not be authorized.

Transit subsidy - Our office currently offers an ECO pass for those employees utilizing public transportation offered by RTD (Regional Transportation District). This includes buses and light rail. This pass is currently available through December 31, 2008 and may or may not be extended depending on whether the transit subsidy program is continued by the Department of Justice.
