MADISON, Wis. -- Striving to prevent injuries and other worksite hazards, developing stronger training programs, and enhancing safety and health for employees throughout Wisconsin are the goals of a renewed alliance between the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Wisconsin Ready Mix Concrete Association (WRMCA). "OSHA and the Wisconsin Ready Mix Concrete Association will continue to work closely through this alliance by sharing best practices, and developing and implementing safety and health training for employees," said Kimberly Stille, OSHA's area director in Madison. "If we can provide these employees with the knowledge and ability to anticipate, identify and eliminate work-related hazards, we will make progress in eliminating job-related injuries." WRMCA is a state trade association of ready mixed concrete producers representing 115 companies throughout Wisconsin and Michigan's upper peninsula. OSHA health and safety alliances are part of U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao's ongoing efforts to improve the health and safety of employees through cooperative partnerships. OSHA currently has 456 alliances throughout the nation with organizations committed to fostering safety and health in the workplace. Under the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, employers are responsible for providing safe and healthful workplaces for their employees. OSHA's role is to assure the safety and health of America's working men and women by setting and enforcing standards; providing training, outreach and education; establishing partnerships; and encouraging continual process improvement in workplace safety and health.
