OSHA Launches Alliance with
Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. -- The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce have joined forces to promote workplace safety and health. The alliance began officially today at a signing ceremony in Hazleton.

OSHA health and safety alliances are part of U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao's ongoing efforts to improve the health and safety of workers through voluntary, cooperative agreements among OSHA and business, labor or trade organizations. OSHA's area office in Wilkes-Barre will represent the agency.

The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce is committed to enhancing the quality of life in the community through business development and economic, civic, cultural and educational programming.

Through the alliance, OSHA and the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce will work together to deliver a series of five seminars on occupational safety and health issues. Topics will include Safety Pays, Preparing for an OSHA Inspection, PENN SAFE, Workers' Compensation, and Violence in the Workplace. Chamber business members will also be encouraged to participate in OSHA training courses and the OSHA 10-hour course in safety and health standards for general industry.
