EL PASO, Texas -- Providing better workplace safety for workers is the goal of a new partnership between the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Honeywell International Security & Custom Electronics Division in El Paso, Texas. OSHA Strategic Partnerships for Worker Safety and Health is part of U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao's ongoing efforts to improve the health and safety of workers through cooperative relationships with trade associations, labor organizations and employers. OSHA's area office in El Paso is working on the formation of this partnership. "This partnership provides an opportunity for the partners to come together and build on the value of safety and health for Honeywell International employees," said John Miles, OSHA's regional administrator in Dallas and head of the agency's taskforce to foster job safety and health among Hispanic workers. Honeywell's Security & Custom Electronics Division is the world's largest manufacturer of electronic security systems that protect millions of homes, businesses and government facilities across the globe. The El Paso facility is the headquarters for customer configuration, product service and distribution, employing a workforce that is 98 percent Hispanic. Partnerships enable organizations committed to workplace safety and health to work cooperatively with OSHA. This partnership will be consistent with OSHA's long-range efforts to develop a business-government approach to safety and health management and will be the stepping-stone in Honeywell's overall goal of achieving OSHA VPP Status.
