Chavez Office: (617) 565-2075 OSHA Forms Safety and Health Alliance with the Northeastern Subcontractors Associationand the New York State Department of Labor ALBANY, NY -- The Albany Area Office of the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the Northeastern Subcontractors Association (NESCA), and the New York State Department of Labor's On-Site Consultation Program (NY Consultation) have joined forces to improve the safety and health of workers in the construction industry. OSHA alliances are part of U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao's ongoing efforts to improve the health and safety of workers through cooperative partnerships. The purpose of the alliance is to provide members of NESCA and others with information, guidance and training resources that will help them protect worker's health and safety. The alliance participants will work together to deliver safety and health training programs related to construction such as fall prevention, eliminating electrical hazards, and excavation safety. "This alliance is an example of Secretary Chao's commitment to find cooperative ways to improve health and safety for all workers," said Patricia K. Clark, OSHA's Regional Administrator in New York. "We want to help educate contractors and their workers to recognize and avoid hazards on the job." NESCA is a non-profit trade association representing over 450 northeastern New York subcontractors, specialty contractors and material suppliers. Founded in 1971, NESCA is a full-service organization committed to serving the needs of commercial, industrial and public works specialty subcontractors and suppliers located in the Capital District, Hudson Valley, North Country and Binghamton areas. Since its inception, NESCA has grown into the largest regional subcontractors association in the nation. Since 2001, the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration has created more than 160 alliances with organizations committed to fostering safety and health in the workplace. OSHA's role is to assure the safety and health of America's workers by setting and enforcing standards; providing training, outreach, and education; establishing partnerships; and encouraging continual improvement in workplace safety and health.
