OSHA and 21st Century Resources Inc. in El Paso Form Alliance to Promote Construction Safety

EL PASO, Texas -- The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has today formed an alliance with 21st Century Resource Inc. in El Paso, an employee leasing company representing more than 130 area construction companies that primarily employ Hispanic workers.

OSHA health and safety alliances are part of Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao's ongoing efforts to improve the health and safety of workers through cooperative partnerships with trade associations, labor organizations and employers.

"This alliance will provide opportunities to build trust, provide information about best practices and leverage resources to maximize worker safety," said John Miles, OSHA's regional administrator in Dallas and head of the agency's taskforce to foster job safety and health among Hispanic workers.

Alliances enable organizations committed to workplace safety and health to work cooperatively with OSHA. Together OSHA and 21st Century Resources will work to help 21st Century Resources members' or worksites participate in OSHA's cooperative and compliance assistance programs. OSHA will also encourage 21st Century Resources worksites and client companies to build relationships with OSHA's regional and area offices to address safety issues, such as preventing falls and electrocutions. In addition, 21st Century staff will act as mentors to client worksites that aspire to excellence in safety and health.

The one-year agreement will be signed at 10 a.m., Aug.13, at 7500 Viscount, Suite 171, in El Paso, the main office of 21st Century Resources.

"This is an opportunity for OSHA and members of 21st Century Resources to come together through meetings and training and education programs to discuss emerging issues targeted toward the construction industry," said Richard Tapio, OSHA area director in Lubbock.

Since 2001, the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration has created more than 160 alliances with organizations committed to fostering safety and health in the workplace. For more information on this alliance or about forming an alliance or partnership with OSHA's Lubbock area office, call (806) 472-7681.

OSHA's role is to assure the safety and health of America's workers by setting and enforcing standards; providing training, outreach, and education; establishing partnerships; and encouraging continual improvement in workplace safety and health. For more information, visit www.osha.gov.
