Latest Alliance Unites OSHA and BELFOR USA
Highlights Safety and Health Issues in Mold Removal, Motor Vehicle Safety

WASHINGTON -- The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and one of the nation's largest disaster restoration companies joined forces today to further the safety and health of workers in the construction and restoration industries.

BELFOR USA signed an Alliance with OSHA to work together on efforts to further safety and health for the company's employees and other workers in the industry. In addition to concentrating on health and safety issues related to mold removal and motor vehicle safety, the Alliance will focus on increasing access to safety and health information for non-English or limited English-speaking workers.

"The professionals at BELFOR USA have a tremendous track record on safety and health issues related to property restoration and recovery," said OSHA Administrator John Henshaw. "We're pleased that they're willing to join with us and share that expertise that will foster a better workplace environment for thousands of workers in the industry. We welcome this valuable relationship."

Added Paul T. Becker, Jr., BELFOR USA's Corporate Safety Manager: "BELFOR has a fervent commitment to the safety of our employees and we are pleased and proud to enter into an Alliance with OSHA. We have a broad range of experience implementing controls to protect employees' health and safety and this Alliance will help to facilitate the sharing of information, guidance and access to training resources with others in the construction and restoration industries."

BELFOR and OSHA will develop and disseminate training and education programs on mold removal practices and personal protective equipment, and motor vehicle safety. In addition to increasing access to safety and health information for non-English speaking workers, a key goal of the Alliance will be to identify contacts within BELFOR USA that can provide OSHA with information regarding mold removal.

BELFOR USA will work with other Alliance participants on specific issues and projects on mold removal and motor vehicle safety and, along with OSHA, will work to develop and disseminate information through various media, including their respective websites, and the creation of a motor vehicle safety web-based training tool.

OSHA and BELFOR USA will also participate together in forums, roundtable discussions and conferences on the aforementioned issues to help forge innovative solutions to raising safety awareness in the workplace.

BELFOR USA is part of a global disaster restoration company and provides property recovery services throughout North America. With 43 offices and 1,400 employees across the country, the company provides services to government agencies, private companies and public education facilities as well as individual homeowners.

OSHA's role is to assure the safety and health of America's workers by setting and enforcing standards; providing training, outreach, and education; establishing partnerships; and encouraging continual improvement in workplace safety and health. For more information, visit www.osha.gov.
