OSHA Announces Logging Association Alliance in Wisconsin

APPLETON, Wis. -- The U.S. Labor Department's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), through its Wisconsin area offices, the state's Safety Consultation Bureau, and three state logging associations, has formed an alliance to help keep logging industry workers safe in Wisconsin.

OSHA alliances are part of U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao's ongoing efforts to improve the health and safety of workers through cooperative partnerships.

The Forest Industry Safety and Training Alliance, the Timber Producers Association of Michigan and Wisconsin, and the Wisconsin Professional Loggers Association will sign the alliance with OSHA on April 16 at the 2004 Wausau Logging Conference.

The alliance places a high priority on increasing safety and health awareness, particularly in the areas of ergonomics, personal protective gear, noise control and safe operation of equipment. Key goals are to develop curricula to inform employees of the value of safety and health in the logging industry and to reach young workers and high school students in Wisconsin who are considering logging as a career.

Since 2001, the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration has created more than 160 alliances with organizations committed to fostering safety and health in the workplace. OSHA is dedicated to saving lives, preventing injuries and illnesses, and protecting America's workers. For more information, visit www.osha.gov.
