Join Forces at World of Concrete 2004 in Orlando WASHINGTON -- More than 1,500 concrete and masonry construction leaders are expected to exhibit during World of Concrete 2004 in Orlando, FL, this month. And, two leaders in workplace safety and health will be there discussing the latest in personal protective equipment and workplace safety issues. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) will join the International Safety Equipment Association (ISEA) at ISEA's "Safety Station" during the four-day event, Feb. 17-21, expected to attract more than 60,000 industry professionals. The teaming of OSHA and ISEA at the event is part of an Alliance signed last September that focuses on the use and maintenance of personal protective equipment at heavy construction worksites. "This is a golden opportunity for OSHA and ISEA to stress safety and health issues to thousands of professionals in the construction industry," said OSHA Administrator John Henshaw. "When we signed our Alliance last year, we did so knowing how important it was to raise awareness of personal protective equipment for construction workers. We're seizing the opportunity to do just that." "Having OSHA representatives with us this year adds to the value of our presence and underscores the importance of equipping workers properly with PPE and making sure they are wearing it when needed," said ISEA President Dan Shipp. "While we've worked informally with OSHA over many years to reduce workplace injuries and fatalities, our cooperative effort at the 'Safety Station' is tangible evidence that we and OSHA are committed to producing positive results." OSHA representatives will man the "Safety Station" from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. daily throughout the conference to share construction safety information and answer safety and health-related questions. The agency will also display its full national exhibit during the conference. The Alliance established between OSHA and ISEA last year calls for the dissemination of information on the appropriate forms of PPE, while promoting the value of its use to mitigate the many hazards found in heavy construction. A key to the Alliance is joint participation at forums, meetings and conferences for both organizations to address construction-related safety and health issues and to promote the effectiveness of safety and health programs. ISEA is a trade association that represents companies that manufacture safety equipment. Its members include companies that design and manufacture clothing and equipment used in factories, construction sites, hospitals and clinics, farms, schools, and laboratories.
