Efforts will focus on hazard communication, respiratory protection, recordkeeping WASHINGTON -- A new Alliance was signed today between the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Club Managers Association of America (CMAA) to promote safe and healthful working conditions for membership club employees. "CMAA has a long and distinguished service to workers in the club work environments and we're pleased that they recognize the value of ensuring safety and health protection for those workers," said OSHA Administrator John Henshaw. "Through this Alliance, we hope to enhance the training, education and tools that will promote even healthier work environments for the thousands of workers in the industry." Added CMAA Chief Executive Officer James B. Singerling: "We are delighted to enter into a formal Alliance with OSHA and continue to promote healthy club work environments. CMAA member-managed clubs employ more than 302,000 people nationwide, and these clubs recognize the value in protecting their greatest assets-their employees. We look forward to a productive and positive partnership." Concentrating on hazard communication, recordkeeping and respiratory protection issues, OSHA and CMAA will develop and make available training courses, educational programs and "tool box talks" in both English and Spanish and electronic assistance tools for youth workers. Both organizations will encourage CMAA's chapters, student chapters, and colonies at colleges and universities to build relationships with OSHA's regional and area offices to address health and safety issues and to increase Spanish-speaking worker's access to, and understanding of, safety and health information and available training resources. OSHA and CMAA plan to develop and disseminate information through various print and electronic media and through both organizations' web sites. Outreach and communication goals will also be met through speeches, exhibits or appearances at conferences or local meetings, or other events such as CMAA's annual meeting and pre-conference workshops. Participation in forums, roundtable discussions and conferences on youth worker outreach and the three focus issues is also on tap to help raise safety awareness in the membership club industry. CMAA is a professional association for managers of country, city, athletic, faculty, yacht, town and military membership clubs and have 6,000 members that employ more than 302,000 workers nationwide. The Association provides professional development training through conferences, management certification courses, and workshops.
