Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte to Give Keynote Address at Global Classrooms D.C. Model United Nations Conference

Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte will give the keynote address at the opening ceremony for the Global Classrooms D.C. Model United Nations Conference, which the Department of State will host on April 28, 2008. Following his remarks at 9:40 a.m., Deputy Secretary Negroponte will take questions from students. Nearly 600 students from the D.C. metropolitan area, as well as Ghana and Mexico, will participate in this year’s conference. More information about GCDC is available at http://www.unanca.org.

The opening ceremony will be open for press coverage. Following the ceremony, conference organizers, students, and teachers will participate in a press conference, after which, members of the media are invited to visit and film the committee rooms where the students will be participating in their Model UN committee meetings. No interviews of students will be permitted during these visits so as not to disrupt the work of the committees. Please see attached the list of schools participating in the conference.

For Media Attending the Opening Ceremony:

Pre-set time for cameras: 9:00 a.m. from the 23rd Street entrance
Final access time: 9:15 a.m. from the 23rd Street entrance

For Media Attending the Press Conference and Visits to Committee Rooms:

Pre-set time for cameras: 10:10 a.m. from the 23rd Street entrance
Final access time: 10:20 a.m. from the 23rd Street entrance
