Deputy Secretary of State John D. Negroponte to Address United States Asia Pacific Council

Deputy Secretary of State John D. Negroponte will address the fifth Annual United States Asia Pacific Council Washington Conference at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, April 11. The one-day conference entitled, "United States and the Asia Pacific: New Challenges in a Changing Environment," will be held in Ballrooms A and B of the Grand Hyatt Hotel, 1000 H Street, NW, Washington, DC. Deputy Secretary of State Negroponte will take questions from the conference participants following his remarks.

The East-West Center established the United States Asia Pacific Council (USAPC) in 2003 with State Department support. The USAPC consists of American corporations and citizens who have made outstanding contributions to the advancement of US relations with Asian and Pacific nations.

This event is open for press coverage.

Pre-set time for cameras: 7:45 a.m.

Final access time for writers and still photographers: 8:30 a.m.

To attend this event, members of the media must present one of the following: (1) a U.S. Government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense or Foreign Press Center), (2) a media-issued photo identification card, or (3) a letter from their employer on letterhead verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo identification (driver's license or passport).
