Meeting of the Advisory Committee on International Communications and Information Policy

The Advisory Committee on International Communications and Information Policy (ACICIP) will meet on Thursday, April 17 at 10:00 a.m. in the Loy Henderson Auditorium of the Harry S Truman Building. The ACICIP serves the U.S. Government in a solely advisory capacity regarding current issues and concerns in international communications and information policy. The public and members of the press may attend this meeting as seating capacity allows.

Ambassador David A. Gross, United States Coordinator for International Communications and Information Policy, and ACICIP Chairman Richard E. Wiley will host the meeting.

The April 17 meeting will cover:

  • Final preparations by the U.S. Delegation to the APEC Ministerial Meeting on Telecommunications and Information Industry to be held in Bangkok from April 23-25, 2008;
  • Bilateral meetings between the U.S. and various government and industry during the recent GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona as well as CTIA Wireless 2008 in Las Vegas;
  • Status of preparations for the OECD Ministerial on the Future of the Internet Economy to be held in Seoul in June and the International Telecommunication Union’s Telecom Africa 2008 to be held in Cairo in May.
  • Further to the last meeting of the ACICIP, a conference that will be led by the President’s Digital Freedom Initiative (a public-private partnership) that is expected to be held in July 2008 and will focus on promoting broadband access in West Africa.

All participants will be required to stay for the duration of the meeting. Admittance to the State Department building will be by means of a pre-arranged clearance list. In order to be placed on this list, please provide your name, title, company or other affiliation if appropriate, government-issued identification number (such as drivers license number), date of birth, and citizenship to the office of International Communications and Information Policy by fax (202) 647-5957 or email (YeeE@state.gov) by April 14.
