Meeting of the Advisory Committee on International Communications and Information Policy

The Advisory Committee on International Communications and Information Policy (ACICIP) will meet on Thursday, January 24 at 10:00 a.m. in the Loy Henderson Auditorium of the Harry S. Truman Building. The ACICIP serves the U.S. Government in a solely advisory capacity regarding current issues and concerns in international communications and information policy. The public and members of the press may attend this meeting as seating capacity allows.

Ambassador David A. Gross, United States Coordinator for International Communications and Information Policy, and ACICIP Chairman Richard E. Wiley will host the meeting.

The January 24 meeting will cover:

  • upcoming international telecommunications meetings and conferences, including a conference to be led by the President’s Digital Freedom Initiative (a public-private partnership) that is expected to be held in May 2008 and will focus on promoting broadband access in West Africa;
  • reports on recent bilateral meetings between the US and the European Union as well as between the US and India;
  • the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) that took place in Brazil this past November and the upcoming IGF that will take place in India in December 2008;
  • the status of efforts to improve US-Mexico border communications;
  • and additional upcoming major events and issues for 2008, including the APEC Telecommunications Ministerial and the OECD Ministerial on the Future of the Internet Economy.

All participants will be required to stay for the duration of the meeting. Admittance to the State Department building will be by means of a pre-arranged clearance list. In order to be placed on this list, please provide your name, title, company or other affiliation if appropriate, government-issued identification number (such as drivers license number), date of birth, and citizenship to the office of International Communications and Information Policy by fax (202) 647-5957 or email (YeeE@state.gov) by January 21.
