Notice to the Press Office of the Spokesman Washington, DC July 16, 2008
Breakfast Briefing on Asia-Pacific Partnership on Clean Development and Climate Under Secretary of State for Democracy and Global Affairs Paula J. Dobriansky will be the featured speaker at the first of a series of briefings on the programmatic activities and results of the Asia-Pacific Partnership on Clean Development and Climate (APP) on Thursday, July 17, at 9:00 a.m. at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center, hosted by the State Department and the United States Energy Association. At the briefing, Under Secretary Dobriansky will launch the new U.S. Government APP website, www.app.gov.
The APP is a key piece of the U.S. climate strategy to engage the world’s largest economies in the effort to combat climate change and promote a cleaner energy future. By uniting the governments and private sectors of seven major Asia-Pacific countries – Australia, Canada, China, India, Japan, Republic of Korea, and the United States – the APP accelerates the development and deployment of cleaner, more efficient technologies. APP activities help Partner countries meet national pollution reduction, energy security and climate change concerns in ways that promote economic development and reduce poverty. Together, APP countries account for more than half of the world's population, economy, and energy use.
Members of the press are invited to attend this on-the-record briefing. For more information and to find a registration form for the event, please visit http://www.state.gov/documents/organization/106932.pdf.
