Branch of Data and Systems Services (BDSS)

The Branch of Data and Systems Services (BDSS) is involved in a variety of activities concerning systems, data, Enterprise Architecture, and Information Technology (IT) projects. BDSS manages the following programs and activities for the Service: Enterprise Architecture, data standards, data acquisition and sharing, geographic information systems (GIS), GIS data and software licenses, GIS metadata creation and publication, systems consultation and development, project coordination for Federal E-Gov projects and Department of the Interior (DOI) enterprise projects. BDSS provides software development consultation and services to other FWS programs and offices. BDSS staff serve on several DOI and inter-agency teams and workgroups and represent the Service in these activities. The following roles are located in BDSS: Service Chief Architect, Service Data Architect, Service GIS Coordinator, Section 508 Coordinator, and E-Gov Project Coordinator. The Service GIS Coordinator chairs the Service's GIS Steering Committee. The Service Section 508 and E-Gov Project Coordinator chairs the Service's Web Security Team, a subteam of the Service Web Council, as well as serves as a voting member on the Departmental Web Council.
