Secretary Rice: Travel to the Middle East, Europe, and Asia, July 23-31, 2006

Secretary Rice is greeted upon arrival in Jerusalem by U.S. Ambassador Richard Jones.

Secretary Rice traveled to Beirut, Lebanon on July 24 to meet with Lebanese officials. She then traveled to Israel and the Palestinian territories to meet with Prime Minister Olmert and his leadership and with President Abbas and his team. She also traveled to Rome, Italy where she met with the Lebanon Core Group. The countries of the Lebanon Core Group form a key Contact Group that can help the Lebanese Government to address the political, economic, and security challenges that it faces. Secretary Rice traveled to Malaysia to meet with the ASEAN Foreign Ministers on July 27 and sign the Framework Agreement for the Plan of Action to implement the ASEAN-U.S. Enhanced Partnership. She participated in the 13th ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) meeting July 28. Photos: Kuala Lumpur
