| |  Special Envoy to the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC)
On February 27, 2008, President Bush appointed Sada Cumber Special Envoy to the Organization of the Islamic Conference. As Envoy, Mr. Cumber’s mission is to explain the U.S. and U.S. foreign policy to the OIC and Muslim communities around the world. In addition, Mr. Cumber anticipates establishing broader substantive engagement with the OIC, particularly in the areas of health, education, women’s empowerment, and science/technology.
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice underscored the importance of this appointment at a March 10 reception for OIC Ambassadors, commenting that “It signals the deep respect for the values and the ideals of Islam that are held by the President and by myself, the U.S. Government and of course, the American people.”

Special Envoy Cumber (Mar. 26): "One of the opportunities that we are working right now is to work on a memorandum of understanding to be signed between the United States and also OIC in which we are looking at the 10-year program for the OIC.
