Six-Party Process
Assistant Secretary Hill (Apr. 4): "We have not seen, with respect to the six-party process, we have not seen how the six-party process is affected by those comments. But I want to say that I have not seen, I've not met with any DPRK representatives since Geneva and so we'll have to see whether those comments affected or not." |
Assistant Secretary for East Asia and Pacific Affairs Christopher Hill traveled to the region begining April 1 in Seoul, South Korea.
On April 4 he visited Jakarta as part of a four-day trip to Indonesia. The Assistant Secretary met with Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Foreign Minister Hassan Wirayuda, and Defense Minister Juwono Sudarsono. During his meetings, Hill discussed matters of bilateral mutual concern, as well as broader regional issues.
On April 6th, he went to Timor-Leste for some bilateral meetings there. And then he will depart Dili on Monday, April 7th and arrived in Singapore on the evening of April 7th. He met with Singaporean officials on Monday evening and on Tuesday the 8th, he then had a meeting with Kim Kye Gwan, his North Korean counterpart in the Six-Party talks. This meeting is a follow-up on the discussions that were held in Geneva last month.
He went to Beijing on April 9 and had discussions with Chinese officials on a variety of topics including some bilateral ones. This is an opportunity to provide a readout of the discussions that he will have had previously with Kim Kye Gwan.
