Findlaw

Findlaw (http://www.findlaw.com/) is a legal website tailored to meet the needs of several different groups such as students, corporate counsel, business, the public and legal professionals. Below are some of the resources in Findlaw for Legal Professionals (http://lp.findlaw.com/?lid=LP_button).

  • Cases & Codes (http://www.findlaw.com/casecode/) contains links to resources for both federal and state codes, statutes, regulations and cases. There are links to the Federal Register, the Code of Federal Regulations, the United States Code, Supreme Court Opinions, U.S. Courts of Appeals and U.S. Trial Courts. The state resources are listed under each state's name and contain links to state courts, state court rules and state court opinions as well as links to state representative bills under the heading of "Federal Legislation."

  • U.S. Federal Resources (http://www.findlaw.com/10fedgov/index.html) contains links to resources in the Executive, Legislative and Judicial Branches as well as links to Executive Agencies, Independent Agencies and Quasi-Government Agencies. Some examples of the resource links are Thomas, the Library of Congress, the Supreme Court, Courts of Appeal, District Courts, Department of Justice, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and IGnet (Federal Inspectors General).

  • Forms (http://forms.lp.findlaw.com/) contains links to federal court forms for appellate, district and bankruptcy courts. There are also links to court forms for state courts. Most of the forms are in pdf format.

  • Experts & Consultants (http://marketcenter.findlaw.com/) contains links to sites for expert witnesses or legal investigators by topic and then location. There are also links to sites for court reporters and process servers by location.

This is just a small selection of the sections that Findlaw has compiled for legal professionals. There are several other sections that are worth reviewing such as U.S. State Resources, Reference Resources, Foreign & International, Legal Subjects and Newsletter Sign-Up (previous Tip of the Week at Newsletter Subscription Center).
