Employment Law User Guides

West provides access to many free user guides (http://west.thomson.com/westlaw/guides/) and reference materials to help you use Westlaw efficiently and make your online research productive.

To access information concerning Employment Law resources:

  • Select “Practice areas” (http://west.thomson.com/westlaw/guides/practice/) under “Browse for User Guides”.
  • Next select “Employment Law”. The page displays brief descriptions of five database lists, guides and assembled folders related to this topic.

More detailed information can be obtained by clicking on the name of the resource. For example:

  • Labor Relations Databases: (http://west.thomson.com/product/RM151345/product.asp)
    Describes labor law databases available on Westlaw; coverage includes federal and state cases, statutes, regulations, and administrative materials; jury verdict and arbitration materials; legal texts and periodicals; and news.

A few of the databases listed under “Federal Case Law and Court Documents” within the “Labor Relations Database” file are as follows:

  • FLB-CS: Federal Labor and Employment: Cases from the U.S. Supreme Court, courts of appeals, district courts, bankruptcy courts, Court of Federal Claims, Tax Court, military courts, and related federal and territorial courts that relate to employment in both the private and the public sectors.
  • FLB-DCT: Federal Labor and Employment–District Courts: Cases from the primary federal courts of original jurisdiction that relate to employment in both the private and the public sectors.
