Deputy Assistant Secretary Carol Thompson traveled to Angola Jan. 29 to Feb. 2, 2007 to discuss education, emergency assistance, and health.

DAS Carol Thompson addresses victims of the recent floods in Viana, Luanda, Angola.  Some local media was in attendance. DAS Thompson visited a temporary shelter for flood displaced people in Viana, Luanda and announced $70,000 in U.S. Government (USG) assistance. DAS Thompson and Ambassador Efird at the launch of the Angolan Fulbright Association in Angola.
DAS Thompson, joined by Ambassador Efird, delivered the inaugural address at the launch of the new Angolan Fulbright Association (AFA) at a ceremony held inside the Embassy.

During a four-day visit to Angola, DAS Carol Thompson attended several Public Diplomacy-related activities including the inauguration of four public basketball courts, rehabilitated through a private-public partnership involving the Angolan Basketball Federation (ABF), the Sprite Company, the National Basketball Association (NBA) and Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) and U.S. Embass Public Affairs Section, Luanda.
