Statement by Ambassador Ryan Crocker on the Death in Baghdad of State Department Employee Steven FarleyBaghdad, IraqJune 24, 2008 U.S. Embassy Baghdad It is with the deepest regret that we announce the tragic loss on June 24, 2008 of our colleague Steve Farley, who was an employee of the U.S. Department of State. Mr. Farley was a member of our embedded Provincial Reconstruction Team for the Sadr City and Adhamiyah districts of Baghdad City. Mr. Farley was killed in an explosion in Baghdad's Sadr City while carrying out his official duties, along with two U.S. Army soldiers and two Department of Defense civilian employees. We extend our deepest condolences to their families and friends, and our profound appreciation for the ultimate sacrifice that they made in service to their country and for the people of Iraq. This is a tragic loss and one we all mourn. We and all who believe in a brighter future for Iraq condemn this heinous attack in the strongest possible terms.
