Secretary Rice arrives in Paris on July 12 for meetings with P5+1 Ministers.
At the invitation of Chancellor Angela Merkel, Secretary Rice and President Bush traveled to northeastern Germany in advance of the G-8 Summit in St. Petersburg, Russia. Chancellor Merkel hosted President Bush on July 13, 2006 in the towns of Stralsund and Trinwillershagen, which are in the Chancellor's electoral constituency. The visit, which took place in what had been communist East Germany, underscored our two nations' commitment to advancing freedom and prosperity, and to strengthening the transatlantic partnership. The two leaders discussed a wide range of global challenges, in particular consultations on Iran and preparations for the G-8 Summit.

On July 12, Secretary Rice traveled to France to attend a P5+1 ministerial meeting.
