Under Secretary Burns: Travel to Belgium, France and India

Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs R. Nicholas Burns visited Brussels, Belgium December 4-5 to take part in the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Ministerial. On December 5, he met with the political directors of the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Russia, and China in Paris, France to pursue progress in achieving a United Nations Security Council Resolution for sanctions against Iran.  He  then traveled to India for a December 6-9 visit to New Delhi, India for the U.S.-India Strategic Dialogue and bilateral discussions.

In Brussels, Under Secretary Burns joined representatives of the other 55 participating states to review the world's largest regional security organization's efforts to support human rights and stability in Europe and Eurasia. Democracy promotion, election monitoring, arms control and conflict resolution are among the issues on the ministerial agenda, and Under Secretary Burns delivered a speech on December 4 to the members laying out U.S. priorities and our strong support for the organization.

Under Secretary Burns then traveled to New Delhi, India where he met with Foreign Secretary Menon and other senior officials, to discuss bilateral and regional issues including the U.S.-India civil nuclear cooperation initiative, defense cooperation, and trade and investment relations.
