Contemporary Policy Initiatives

International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) 
-- Links six members of the global scientific community in an effort to achieve environmentally friendly, sustainable fusion energy.

Science, Technology and Engineering Mentorship Initiative in Iraq (STEM II)
-- Develop the STE capacity of Iraq through mentorships between Iraqi scientists and their U.S. academic counterparts by establishing long-term research relationships.

Science and Technology for Secure and Prosperous Societies (SPS) 
-- Initiated a multi-organization (World Bank, Inter-American Development Bank, National Academies, university community, U.S. Government) discussion on a new effort to promote the effective use of S&T for developing countries.

Visas for International S&T communities
-- Forging a new agreement within the U.S. State Department and through an inter-agency process to increase flexibility in the visa process for the S&T community that maintains international access to U.S. research and educational institutions while ensuring a safe and secure U.S. society.

Peer-Review of Scientific Papers: Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC)
-- Developed a proposal accepted to adjudicate the debate over the peer-review of scientific papers submitted from the T-7 countries for publication in U.S. journals. Confirmed recently in new OFAC ruling.
