OSG Summer Research Positions

The Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) informally participates in the Summer Law Intern Program, the Department's recruitment program for compensated summer legal internships. The OSG typically hires from two to four third year students who will serve in federal judicial clerkships following graduation from law school. Applications should be submitted to OSG on the web-based application for the Summer Law Intern Program, accessed at www.usdoj.gov/oarm.

The Office of Solicitor General is listed as an employment preference on the application. Please note that only third-year law students who will serve in federal judicial clerkships following graduation are eligible for employment with the OSG. Eligible candidates interested in working in OSG should select OSG as a preference.

Because of changes in judicial hiring in 2003, the application process is different for candidates who have applied for judicial clerkships, but who have not been notified of the results. Current third-year students who do not yet know if they will be selected for a judicial clerkship should apply to the Attorney General's Honors Program. If they are selected for a clerkship, they can withdraw their application to the Honors Program through the "status of application" screen and request that their application be referred to the OSG. The system will prompt them to enter pertinent information about their clerkship and will add that information to their previously submitted application. These applications will then be made available to the OSG.
