PRESS RELEASE (July 12, 2007)

Rocky Flats, a former nuclear plant located just 16 miles northwest of Denver, Colorado is a new refuge in the US Fish and Wildlife Refuge System. Click above for current information.

A Record of Decision (ROD) for the Final Rocky Flats National Wildlife Refuge Comprehensive Conservation Plan (CCP) was published in the Federal Register on April 18, 2005.  The ROD confirms that the CCP has been prepared along with an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS)  in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).  The ROD also verifies that the CCP addresses the issues identified during the public process, and is consistent with Service policies, the Rocky Flats National Wildlife Act of 2001, and sound wildlife and habitat management principles.

To receive a summary brochure of the final Rocky Flats National Wildlife Refuge CCP or a copy of the full plan, please contact the SERVICE at or call 303-289-0980. The CCP AND SUMMARY BROCHURE is available to download on this website.

The CCP outlines the management direction and strategies for refuge operations, habitat restoration and visitor services for the next 15 years. The Rocky Flats National Wildlife Refuge CCP accomplishes the following:

  • Outlines a vision for the Refuge
  • Provides guidance for management decisions
  • Outlines goals, objectives and strategies to achieve the Refuge’s visions and purpose
  • Provides other agencies and the public with an understanding of the management strategies to be implemented
  • Describes the desired future condition of the Refuge

The entire final EIS/CCP as well as a summary document, the ROD, and Planning Update vol. VI are all available on the OVERVIEW page of this website.
