Climate Technology Award to India's Center for Power Efficiency and Environmental Protection

Delegation of the United States of America to the Eighth session of the Conference of the Parties (COP-8) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change

India’s Center for Power Efficiency and Environmental Protection (CENPEEP) of the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) has been selected to receive the Climate Technology Award 2002 by the Climate Technology Initiative (CTI). The award will be presented to CENPEEP on October 29, 2002. The event will take place at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Eighth Conference of the Parties (COP-8) in New Delhi, India.

CTI is a multilateral initiative of 23 International Energy Agency/Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development countries and the European Commission to promote the objectives of the UNFCCC. CENPEEP is a principal partner in the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Greenhouse Gas Pollution Prevention project, and was nominated for the award by USAID in May 2002. This award is a testimonial to the significant efforts of CENPEEP to address efficiency and environmental issues of NTPC power plants, as well as those of State Electricity Boards throughout India.
