Welcome and Introduction of Acting Assistant Secretary of Health

RADM Penelope Slade Royall, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Health, welcomed the Committee and members of the audience. RADM Royall remarked after Secretary Leavitt announced the creation of the Physical Activity Guidelines, the process has moved along rapidly to get to this point. She thanked the committee for moving quickly and acknowledged the support the committee received from the Federal Steering Committee, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation, all of the consultants and everyone involved with the Physical Activity Guidelines process. RADM Royall noted the importance of this process as it will be the first time the federal government has come together, speaking with one voice, to produce guidelines on physical activity. RADM Royall introduced Don Wright, Acting Assistant Secretary for Health.
