December 6 — 7, 2007 Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes

General Discussion

Friday, December 7, 12:30 p.m.

The meeting continued with open discussion among Committee members.

Nutrition
It was commented not much has been addressed in terms of nutrition. While the charge of the group is to address physical activity it should be noted that people should also consult the Dietary Guidelines as nutrition and physical activity should go hand in hand.

Fitness as an Outcome Versus Exposure
Several comments addressed the appropriateness of fitness as an outcome and how it relates as an exposure. Additionally, members agreed there should be language addressing whether physical activity touches upon fitness. While exercise is somewhat of a different area, moderate physical activity, especially in inactive individuals, can improve fitness.

Measurements
Discussion turned again towards methodology for capturing volume of physical activity. Further discussion will be needed to see if a standard can be utilized when final recommendations are being developed by Committee members.

Adjournment

Dr. Haskell adjourned the Committee Meeting.
