Hudson River Trustees Release Fact Sheet for Sediment Toxicity Pilot Study

Date Posted: September 30, 2008

The Hudson River Natural Resource Trustees have released a Fact Sheet for a preliminary investigation regarding sediment toxicity and associated injuries to natural resources as part of the Hudson River Natural Resource Damage Assessment (NRDA). The Hudson River Natural Resource Trustees -- New York State, the U.S. Department of Commerce, and the U.S. Department of the Interior -- are working cooperatively to conduct the NRDA. The objective of the sediment toxicity pilot study is to determine if PCB-contaminated sediments from the Hudson River are toxic to sediment-dwelling organisms. The Fact Sheet contains more details about the investigation. Depending on the results of this preliminary investigation, the Trustees may conduct additional field investigations and/or laboratory studies to further evaluate the effects of PCBs on sediment-dwelling organisms.
