Goal is to train, educate and share best practices with electric co-ops throughout state BISMARCK, N.D. -- The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), through its Bismarck Area Office, and the North Dakota Association of Rural Electric Cooperatives (NDAREC) have established an alliance to enhance the safety training and education programs offered to electric co-op employees throughout North Dakota. Through this alliance with OSHA, managers, supervisors and employees working for electric co-ops will share best practices to eliminate or reduce hazards of working in the electric industry. "I commend the North Dakota Association of Rural Electric Cooperatives for demonstrating a continued commitment to workplace safety and health," said Bruce Beelman, OSHA's area director in Bismarck. "We've had a very positive and proactive relationship with the association, and this alliance will further enhance our mutual goals of reducing workplace fatalities, injuries and illnesses." Dennis Hill, NDAREC executive vice president, added, "We look forward to working with OSHA in this alliance. Employee safety is one of our highest priorities. We believe this alliance will give us a good forum to share the best practices that will keep our employees working in a safe environment." OSHA will share with NDAREC current injury, hazard and workforce trends information and the most frequently violated standards and other relevant enforcement updates so that NDAREC-member companies are aware of what to look for when inspecting their jobsites. A team made up of OSHA and NDAREC association members will meet regularly to share information about activities and results in achieving alliance goals. The alliance will remain in effect for two years. Under the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, employers are responsible for providing safe and healthful workplaces for their employees. OSHA's role is to assure the safety and health of America's working men and women by setting and enforcing standards; providing training, outreach and education; establishing partnerships; and encouraging continual process improvement in workplace safety and health.
