WASHINGTON -- OSHA Administrator Ed Foulke signed a two-year Alliance renewal between the agency and the Coordinating Committee for Automotive Repair (CCAR). Originally signed in February 2004, the Alliance focuses on workplace vehicle safety, abrasive wheel machinery and ergonomics. The renewal expands the scope of the agreement to address hexavalent chromium issues. "Over the past two years," Foulke explained, "we have been working with CCAR to develop a safety section for their online training curriculum that highlights safety and environmental issues in the auto body and repair industry. Our cooperative relationship is working and it is one that is important to continue." Added CCAR President Robert G. Stewart: "Working together with OSHA, CCAR wants to provide tools, insight and information that can help prevent on-the-job injuries and extend the careers of those who work in the automotive industry." OSHA has reviewed and provided comments on the CCAR's Operating Motor Vehicles Document and its Virtual Collision Repair Shop. CCAR representatives are also helping OSHA to maintain and update the agency's Motor Vehicle and Auto body Repair and Refinishing Safety and Health Topics pages. ###
