Free OSHA Training for Massachusetts
Nursing/Personal Care Facilities in Newton on Sept. 5

Methuen, Mass. -- Helping Bay State nursing and personal care facilities reduce occupational injuries and illnesses in their workplaces is the object of an upcoming free training seminar presented by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the Massachusetts Extended Care Federation, Sallop Insurance Agency, and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts' Safety Consultation Program.

The training, which will be held on Thurs., Sept. 5, 2002, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at the Marriott Hotel, 2345 Commonwealth Ave., in Newton, is designed for facility operators, safety and health managers, hospital managers and employee representatives from nursing and personal care facilities in Massachusetts, noted Richard Fazzio, OSHA's Methuen Area Director.

Participants will receive training to identify and address the four major causes of worker injuries and illnesses in nursing facilities - ergonomic injuries related to resident handling; exposure to blood and other potentially infectious materials; exposure to tuberculosis; and slips, trips and falls.

The seminar is part of an OSHA national emphasis program focusing outreach and enforcement efforts on specific hazards in nursing and personal care facilities with high injury and illness rates.

Seating is limited, so advance registration is requested. To register, call the Massachusetts Extended Care Federation at 617-558-0202.
