Dedication of Rick Finley Building in Detroit

The Drug Enforcement Administration, Detroit Field Division, today announces the dedication of the newly constructed Rick Finley Building, located at 431 Howard Street, Detroit, MI. This building will be leased by the General Services Administration to house the 175 employees of the Drug Enforcement Administration's Divisional Office, as well as, the DEA State & Local Training Center. The DEA Office was previously housed in the Federal Courthouse Building on West Lafayette. Several dignitaries, including U.S. Congressman John Conyers Jr., DEA Administrator Thomas A. Constantine, and various state and local representatives, will be in attendance for the official dedication ceremony at 1:30PM on May 19, 1995. The Finley family, friends and law enforcement associates from across the country will also be in attendance.

The Farbman Group, owners of the building, are proud and honored to name this three-story, 70,000 square foot structure after DEA Special Agent Rick Finley, who was killed in the line of duty on May 20, 1989. Special Agent Rick Finley officially entered on duty with the DEA in 1984, and was assigned to the DEA Detroit Divisional Office as his first post of duty. During his assignment in Detroit, Rick volunteered for Operation SNOWCAP. Operation SNOWCAP was a multi-federal agency task force which operated in several South American countries to locate and destroy clandestine cocaine laboratories in the source locations. Special Agent Rick Finley died in an airplane crash in the Upper Huallega Valley, Peru, after completing a day of field operations regarding this mission. The DEA Family is pleased and proud that The Farbman Group chose to honor the memory of Special Agent Rick Finley by dedicating their building in his name.

Administrator Thomas A. Constantine stated, "It is sobering to remember the number of DEA employees who have given their lives so that our world can be a safer place. Special Agents like Rick Finley represent our democracy and all the people of America who look to us to protect their communities from the ravages of drugs and violent crime."
