NEW YORK, NY - DEA Special Agent-In-Charge Felix J. Jimenez, New York City Police Commissioner Bernard B. Kerik, New York State Police Superintendent James W. McMahon, and Special Narcotics Prosecutor Bridget G. Brennan announced the seizure of about 700 pounds of cocaine, 680 pounds of marijuana, 25 pounds of methamphetamine and 2.4 million dollars in cash in connection with a search conducted in Hunts Point section of the Bronx about 7:00 PM on September 18, 2001. The narcotics and cash were recovered from a false compartment constructed in the front of a 60-foot tractor-trailer, which was parked in an enclosed stall adjacent to an auto salvage yard in Hunts Point.

Fidel Rodriguez, age 53, of Lake Elsinore, California and Robert Serrano, 37, of Nogales, Arizona, fled into the salvage yard when police converged on the scene. Several hours later, they were found hiding on the roof of the stall that housed the trailer and were arrested.

The search was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Task Force, which is comprised of New York City police Officers, Drug Enforcement Agents and New York State Police. The case will be handled by the Special Narcotics Prosecutor’s Office.

Opportunity to take photographs of seized contraband available through Drug Enforcement Task Force at 99 Tenth Avenue. (Contact Liz Jordan 337-2906)
