OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH ADMINISTRATION
SEATTLE REGIONAL OFFICE
AND
THE CONSULATE OF MEXICO IN SEATTLE

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Seattle Regional Office, and the Consulate of Mexico in Seattle, (the Consulate),

intend to establish an Alliance to achieve the following:

OSHA’s Seattle Regional Office and the Consulate intend to work together to achieve the following training and education goals:
  • To provide expertise to develop recommendations to OSHA headquarters for the production of brief or plain-language "Fact Sheets" or pictorials to simplify or help explain complex regulations or potential hazards to workers and employers served by the Consulate.

  • To provide expertise to develop training and education programs for Hispanic worker and Hispanic employer workplace rights and responsibilities, to provide expertise in communicating such information to employers and employees, and to participate, as resources permit, in other training and education activities such as the "mobile Consulate" program, and local radio broadcasts.
Outreach and Communication

OSHA’s Seattle Regional Office and the Consulate intend to work together to achieve the following outreach and communication goals:
  • To provide expertise in developing information on the recognition and prevention of workplace hazards, and to provide expertise in developing ways of communicating such information (e.g., print and electronic media, electronic assistance tools and OSHA’s and the Consulate’s Web sites) to employers and employees.

  • To speak, exhibit, or appear at OSHA or Consulate conferences, local meetings, or other events such as the annual Mexican Festival of Independence celebration in Seattle.
Promotion of a National Dialogue

OSHA’s Seattle Regional Office and the Consulate intend to work together to achieve the following goals related to promoting the national dialogue on workplace safety and health:
  • To convene or participate in forums, round table discussions, or stakeholder meetings to help forge innovative solutions in the workplace or to provide input on safety and health issues especially related to providing outreach to employers who employ Mexican workers.
An implementation team made up of the OSHA Regional Administrator, the Mexican Consul, and appropriate staff, intends to meet to develop a plan of action, determine working procedures, and identify the roles and responsibilities of the participants. In addition, OSHA’s Seattle Regional Office and the Consulate intend to meet at least quarterly to track and share information on activities and results in achieving the goals of the Alliance.
