OSHA, Georgia Tech To Hold Safety Fair For Hispanic Workers and Families June 11 at Gwinnett County Fair Ground

ATLANTA -- Construction safety classes for Hispanic workers will be the focus of the Family Health and Safety Fair, Feria Familiar de Salud y Seguridad, Saturday, June 11 at the Gwinnett County Fair Ground. The event will also feature safety classes for the entire family.

The fair runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the fair ground located at 2405 Sugarloaf Pkwy, Lawrenceville. The main events are classes taught in Spanish by safety professionals. Topics include: fall protection, trench and excavation safety, personal protective equipment, and the safe use of scaffolds, power tools and other construction equipment.

Family members can attend CPR, water safety awareness and electricity safety demonstrations. Free health screenings will also be available.

"Thanks to the generosity of sponsors, all classes are free," said G.T. Breezley, director of the Atlanta-East area office of the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). "We hope employers will attend and encourage their Spanish workers to take advantage of the free classes."

OSHA, Georgia Tech Research Institute and the Consulate General of Mexico organized the fair to promote safety and health for Hispanic workers and their families. Daniel J. Ortiz, director of Georgia Tech's small business consultation service, is planning chair for the event.

Special activities are planned for children, including safety awareness presented in an entertaining manner.

For more information, contact Dan Ortiz at (404) 894-8276 or G.T. Breezley at (770) 493-6644.
