Goal to Train and Educate Employees On Safety and Health Hazards in Industry BISMARCK, N.D. -- The Bismarck office of the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the North Dakota Grain Dealers Association have formed an alliance to better train and educate workers about safety and health hazards of grain elevators and feed mills. The alliance will develop training and education programs about hazards in the grain industry for facility managers, supervisors and employees and will share best practices to eliminate or reduce those hazards. The Grain Dealers Association represents over 350 grain elevator and feed mill locations throughout North Dakota, with approximately 1,800 employees. OSHA will share data about injuries, hazards and workforce trends, the most frequently violated standards and other enforcement updates to keep companies in the association aware of what to look for when inspecting their jobsites. "The North Dakota Grain Dealers Association has demonstrated its commitment to workplace safety and health through this alliance," said Bruce Beelman, OSHA area office director in Bismarck. "The department has always had a very positive, proactive relationship with the association, and the alliance will help us meet the goals of reducing workplace fatalities, injuries and illnesses." A team of representatives from OSHA's Bismarck office and Grain Dealers Association members will meet regularly to share information on activities and results in achieving the goals of the alliance. "This alliance is a good fit with our existing safety and health program," said Steve Strege, Grain Dealers Association executive vice president. "The association already has two full-time persons in the field providing inspection and training services for grain elevators, primarily in North Dakota, and some in neighboring states as well. Combining OSHA's resources with ours will improve outreaches for both."
