Fite Fire & Safety Achieves OSHA Recognition
Ceremony Held in Midland, Texas

MIDLAND, Texas -- Safety Instrumentation Inc., doing business as Fite Fire & Safety in Midland, Texas, has earned membership in the prestigious "Star" Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) of the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). A recognition ceremony was held today in Midland.

"The company's outstanding effort includes maintaining an injury and illness rate that is 100 percent below the national average for their industry," said Richard Tapio, area director for OSHA's Lubbock, Texas, area office. "Fite Fire & Safety has demonstrated excellence in effective safety and health management for the past three years."

Fite Fire & Safety, which employs about 10 workers in Midland, is a wholesale company that provides safety equipment, such as gas monitors, fire-retardant clothing and respirators to its customers. Additionally, company officials perform inspections, maintenance and equipment repair to oil refineries in western Texas and New Mexico.

The VPP recognizes and promotes effective workplace safety and health management. About 1,400 workplaces throughout the U.S., representing 280 industries, have earned OSHA's highest recognition as participants in the VPP. Program participants typically achieve injury and illness rates that are 50 percent lower than average rates for their respective industry.

Employers are responsible for providing a safe and healthful workplace for their employees. The role of OSHA is to assure the safety and health of America's workers by setting and enforcing standards; providing training, outreach and education; establishing partnerships; and encouraging continual improvement in workplace safety and health.
