U.S. LABOR DEPARTMENT RELOCATES MANHATTAN OFFICES

NEW YORK -- The U.S. Labor Department has relocated two of its offices to the federal building at 201 Varick Street in Manhattan as a result of the destruction of the World Trade Center.

The Manhattan area office of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the regional office of the Pension and Welfare Benefits Administration were previously in the 6 World Trade Center building that was demolished.. They will remain at 201 Varick until further notice.

Two other offices were also affected. The Manhattan district offices of the Wage and Hour Division and the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs were in the federal building at 26 Federal Plaza, which was not damaged but has been closed to the public. The Wage and Hour Division plans to operate from offices in Brooklyn until further notice. The Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs will resume operations in its original office at 26 Federal Plaza as of Monday, September 24.
