OSHA ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENT OF ACCSH MEMBERS

Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health Charles N. Jeffress today announced the appointment of seven new members and reappointment of seven others to the Advisory Committee on Construction Safety and Health (ACCSH).

ACCSH advises the assistant secretary on standards and polices related to the protection of construction workers from worksite hazards. The 15-member committee consists of five representatives each of employers and employees, two state government representatives, two public representatives, and one member designated by the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS), normally from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health.

The newly appointed members are:

Employee Representatives
Bob Krul, Director of Safety and Health, United Union of Roofers, Waterproofers and Allied Workers. Krul will also serve as committee chairperson.

Manny Mederos, Director, Safety and Health Department, International Brotherhood of the Electrical Workers.

Employer Representatives
Dan Murphy, Vice President Risk Control, St. Paul Insurance Fire and Marine Insurance.

James Ahern, President, Ahern and Associates.

Public Representatives
Thomas A. Broderick, Executive Director, Construction Safety Council.

State Safety and Health Representatives
Kevin Beauregard, Assistant Deputy Commissioner/Director of the Division of Occupational Safety and Health, North Carolina Department of Labor.

John P. O'Connor, Secretary of Labor, Licensing & Regulation, State of Maryland.

Reappointed members include:

Employee Representatives
Stephen Cooper, Executive Director, International Association of Bridge, Structural and Ornamental Iron Workers.

William Rhoten, Director of Safety and Health, United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the U.S. and Canada.

Larry Edginton, Director of Safety and Health, International Union of Operating Engineer.

Employer Representatives
Stewart Burkhammer, Vice President & Manager of Safety & Health Services, Bechtel Corporation.

Felipe Devora, Safety Director, Fretz Construction Company.

Owen Smith, President, Anzalone & Associates, Inc.

Public Representatives
Jane Williams, President, A-Z Safety Resources.

Department of Health and Human Services
Marie Haring Sweeney, Ph.D., National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health.
