OSHA renews alliance with the Sealant Waterproofing and Restoration Institute

WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) renewed its alliance with the Sealant Waterproofing and Restoration Institute (SWRI) to continue providing SWRI members and other stakeholders in the sealant, waterproofing, and restoration industry with information about workplace health and safety training resources. The alliance will continue to address issues such as confined spaces, falls, lead and silica hazards, and staging requirements.

"OSHA and SWRI have cooperatively worked together to proactively ensure a commitment to safety and health in the sealant, waterproofing, and restoration industry," said Assistant Secretary of Labor for OSHA Edwin G. Foulke, Jr. "More than 32,000 industry professionals have also gained valuable information and benefited from OSHA's Sealant, Waterproofing, and Restoration Industry Safety and Health Topics page, SWRI events and the OSHA and SWRI Web sites."

"The Sealant Waterproofing and Restoration Institute is excited about renewing our alliance with OSHA," said SWRI Executive Vice President Ken Bowman. "The communication and access to the compliance assistance tools from OSHA representatives and the OSHA Web site has made it possible for SWRI to disseminate valuable safety and health information to our members. The Institute looks forward to continue working with OSHA in addressing key health and safety issues that affect our industry."

Through the alliance, SWRI members and staff sit on the editorial board of the OSHA Sealant, Waterproofing, and Restoration Industry Safety and Health Topics page which is a product of this alliance. In addition, OSHA representatives have participated in the SWRI Winter Technical Meetings in 2006 and 2007 and the Alliance Program's Construction Roundtable Design for Safety and Fall Protection Workgroups. Through this workgroup, SWRI developed a slide presentation addressing fall protection issues in the construction industry, including fall protection systems.

SWRI is a non-profit corporation of 230 commercial contractors, manufacturers and consultants engaged in the application, design and manufacture of sealant, waterproofing and restoration products.
