OSHA To Give Free Training On Reducing Amputation Hazards
Three Sites Scheduled In South Alabama: Dothan, Mobile And Montgomery

MOBILE, Ala. -- Assisting South Alabama employers to identify, reduce and eliminate workplace amputation hazards is the goal of half-day training sessions to be held during June and July in Dothan, Mobile and Montgomery. The free training is co-sponsored by the University of Alabama's SafeState Consultation Services, Small Business Development Centers and the Mobile OSHA area office.

Each of the three sessions will focus on hazards associated with saws, shears, slicers, slitters and various mechanical power presses --- equipment which accounts for most amputations.

"An average of 10,000 on-the-job amputations occur each year in the United States, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics data." said Lana Graves, OSHA's Mobile area director. "These training sessions are designed to prevent amputation accidents which affect so many American workers."

All training sessions will begin at 8:30 a.m. and end at 11:00 a.m.
