Safety Partnership Forged for Sight & Sound Theater in Branson, Mo.
OSHA Joining with CDI Contractors LLC and Missouri Consultation Program

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), CDI Contractors LLC and the Missouri On-site Safety and Health Consultation Program have formed a partnership designed to reduce fatalities and serious injuries and ensure worker safety during the construction of the Sight and Sound Theater in Branson, Mo.

The theater will be a six-story building located on 46 acres at 285 Expressway Lane in Branson, with a seating capacity for 2,000 people. It is anticipated the project will take approximately 24 months to complete.

"The partnership effectively combines the cooperative effort of labor, management and government to address all facets of job-site safety on this project," said Charles E. Adkins, CIH, OSHA's regional administrator in Kansas City. "The partnership allows for better use of OSHA resources and innovation in safety management and encourages more participation in the safety process from the construction community."

Goals of the partnership include establishing a system to collect and analyze injury and illness trends by all contractors performing work at the site; implementing a comprehensive jobsite inspection program; monitoring all toxins, carcinogens or hazardous substances; and ensuring that employees receive adequate safety and health training, especially Hispanic subcontractors with non-English speaking workers.

"We have always placed the highest value on the safety and well-being of our most valuable asset -- our project employees," said Lloyd Garrison, president of CDI Contractors LLC. "Through this partnership, we hope to demonstrate a model performance in our industry that others measure against and seek to attain."

The program will be evaluated annually and CDI Contractors, LLC, along with its subcontractors, will remain subject to OSHA inspections in response to complaints, referrals, or in the event of fatalities.

The Missouri On-site Safety and Health Consultation Program works cooperatively with employers in a non-enforcement capacity. "By touching this group of small contractors at this project, we can help them in the development and implementation of effective safety management systems that will follow them forward into future construction endeavors," said Richard Simmons, the program's director. Missouri employers can access the state program's free services by calling Simmons at (573) 751-1223.
