R.C. Bigelow's Boise Facility Achieves OSHA SHARP Recognition

SEATTLE -- R.C. Bigelow Inc.'s Bigelow Teas Boise facility has earned membership in the Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) of the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). A recognition ceremony is scheduled Tuesday, Aug. 2, at the company's 315 Benjamin Lane location.

"R.C. Bigelow has done an excellent job of safety and health management at its Boise facility," said OSHA Regional Administrator Richard Terrill in Seattle. "The company has adopted safety as a business priority, working with employees and management towards improving their safety and health management system."

R.C. Bigelow produces and markets blended teas. Headquartered in Fairfield, Conn., the company has approximately 350 employees, 85 of whom work at the Boise location. In addition to an exemplary safety and health management system, the plant has an injury and illness case rate well below the industry average. Due to the SHARP recognition, the company's Boise facility is exempt from OSHA's programmed inspections until June 30, 2006.

Through SHARP, OSHA recognizes smaller employers who operate exemplary safety and health management systems. SHARP is designed to provide incentives and support to those employers that implement and continuously improve effective safety and health management systems at their worksites. Upon receiving SHARP recognition, worksites are exempt from OSHA programmed inspections for one year. SHARP may be renewed for sites that continue to maintain exemplary safety and health management systems.
